Note for all OS’s: If you have an issue with printing e.g. the document seems to send but is not available to be released at the MFP, try putting ads\ before your NTU username.
- Ensure your Mac is fully up to date. Clicking the Apple menu, then "About this Mac"
- If you need to update, or are not sure, go back to the Apple Menu and choose Software Update, then install all available updates. Repeat this process until there are no remaining updates to be installed.
Download and install the HP Drivers. The HP Drivers can be downloaded from here
If you are using macOS 10.15 Catalina please be aware of the following
There are no drivers released yet by HP for Catalina so for now you will only be able to use the Mono printer by selecting Use:Generic Post Script
When the new drivers are released, we will update this guide accordingly and the colour printer can be installed. You can print via your mobile device as a workaround - the guide to this is here
Open System Preferences
Then open on Print & Scan
Click the + button to add a new printer. The first time you go to add a new printer, add the Advanced button to the add printer toolbar.
Ctrl-click on the toolbar, select Customise Toolbar... and then drag the Advanced button onto the toolbar
Select Advanced then specify the following printer settings:
Type: Windows printer via spoolss
Device: Another Device
URL: The URL entry is formatted like this:
For the City Colour Queue enter the URL smb://mercedes.ads.ntu.ac.uk:139/city-colour-mfps
For the Clifton Mono Queue enter the URL smb://porsche.ads.ntu.ac.uk:139/clifton-mono-mfps
For the Clifton Colour Queue enter the URL smb://porsche.ads.ntu.ac.uk:139/clifton-colour-mfps
For the Brackenhurst Mono Queue enter the URL smb://porsche.ads.ntu.ac.uk:139/brackenhurst-mono-mfps
For the Brackenhurst Colour Queue enter the URL smb://porsche.ads.ntu.ac.uk:139/brakenhurst-colour-mfps
Name: any suitable name e.g. NTU-City-Colour (Use only letters, numbers and hyphens, do not use spaces)
For the Colour MFP's select Use: Select Software...
When prompted select HP Colour LaserJet MFP M880 and OK
For Black and White MFP's select Use:Generic Post Script
Select the Add button to save this printer. If prompted, select Duplexing
When you print, you will be asked to enter your NTU username and password
Thanks for this Carl!
Brilliant stuff could you add how to customise the tool bar if they don't have the advanced button
Hi
Does the area above show how to do this, already please? :-)
"Ctrl-click on the toolbar, select Customize Toolbar... and then drag the Advanced button onto the toolbar..."
Presumably you could also use Mac right-click and then choose Customise Toolbar. :-)
If you can bear with us, we could also add an image to help explain too.
Best wishes
Paul
Hi Carl, I am able to print to the city mono printers but when I send things to print from city colour they are coming out in black and white. Any ideas?
Hi Amdah,
Would you be able to pop to the Service Desk with you Macbook?

Hi,
On choosing Printer Software, I could not find "HP Color LaserJet flow MFP M880" for City color printing.
For HP branded printers, there are only the following to choose from.
1. HP DeskJet Series
2. HP LaserJet Series PCL 4/5
Thank you
Janice
10.10.5 doesn't have an advanced option when you add a new printer
Hi Thomas
I will log a ticket for you shortly.
Thanks

Hi,
I can't get this to work with OS 10.12 and can't find any instructions for that OS. When I print it goes to the print queue and says 'ready to print' but it doesn't show up when I scan my student card at the printer.
Where can I edit the username/password that I submitted so that I can try putting '/ads' at the front of my username?
Dear Jake, will log a Service Manager ticket for you and send you some instructions explaining how to "edit" the username/password.
Thanks
Paul

Also, for wifi printing, how do I know the location of the printer I'm using?
Thank you

Hello Janice
You probably need to install the drivers from the Apple website. They can be downloaded from the following link, which is shown on the guide as well.
https://support.apple.com/kb/dl907?locale=en_GB
On your Wi-Fi printing question the locations of the printers can be found at the following link. http://www4.ntu.ac.uk/information_systems/document_uploads/88450.pdf
I hope this all helps.
Best wishes
Paul
Hi Paul,
Thanks! I will try it out later.
For the printer locations, do i get to choose specifically which printer to print (e.g. Boots Library 1, Outside 105, color printer)? or is it chose automatically (e.g. by my location)?
Janice
Hello again Janice
You should be able to select either City Mono or City Colour depending if you require colour or mono and then whichever device you go to (mono or colour) you can release the print job from the printer of your choice nearest to you with your University smartcard.
Best wishes
Paul
