Syncing NTU timetable with your BlackBerry Device

This guide will help you to sync your NTU timetable with your BlackBerry device, allowing you to view your timetable on the device’s own calendar.

In order to sync your NTU timetable with your device, you will first need to sync your NTU timetable with a Google calendar (if you do not already have a google account, you will need to make one), and then you can proceed to sync your Google calendar with your device. This guide will take you through both of these steps.

To begin, in your PC’s browser, navigate to your NTU Timetable either in NOW or on the Staff Portal, and select “Subscribe to iCal”.

If you are brought to the NOW Sign-on screen, enter your NTU username and password as normal.

You should then be taken to the following screen

Right-click on “Access Calendar Feed” and select

Internet Explorer - “Copy Shortcut”

Firefox - "Copy Link Location"

Chrome -"Copy Link Address"

Now, go to Google (www.google.co.uk) and click on the “Sign in” button in the top right hand corner

Enter your Google account email and password to sign in

Once signed in, click on the “Calendar” link in the top toolbar

On the Calendar page, on the left hand side of the screen, click on the small drop box to the right of “Other Calendars” and then select “Add by URL”

image012.png

The “Add by URL” window should come up, in here paste the link you copied from the “Access Calendar Feed” earlier on, and then click on “Add Calendar”

After a moment, your timetable should now be synced into your Google calendar

On your BlackBerry device, you will need to install an application provided by Google called Google Sync. To install this, go to http://m.google.com/sync on your device.

Click on “Install Now”, this will bring up the following dialogue box

Select “Download”. Once the download is complete the following dialogue box will appear

Select “Run”. The application will start with the sign in screen shown below. Enter your Google account email (this needs to be the @gmail.com address) and password and click on “Sign in”.

Once you have signed in, a welcome message will appear, scroll down to the bottom and click on the “Configure Sync” button

This will bring up the Options menu, here you can customize a number of options. Make sure you tick the “Sync Calendar” option. At the bottom you will see the “Sync these Calendars” section, click within here to choose your calendars.

In the Select calendars screen, make sure the “NTU timetable” option is ticked

Once you have selected your chosen calendars, hit the back button to return to the Options screen, and if you are happy with these, again hit the back button. A dialogue box will appear, choose the “Save” option.

image032.jpg

Another dialogue box will then appear, asking if you wish to sync now, select “Yes”

image034.jpg

You should then be informed when the sync is complete

The setup is now complete, and you should be able to view your NTU timetable within your BlackBerry device’s calendar.

PLEASE NOTE:

This service is a subscription to your NTU timetable. This means that you will be dependent on how often your BlackBerry device will update your Calendar, and your connection to the Internet or a 3G network.

If you are in any doubt about the accuracy of your NTU Timetable, please consult your timetable directly within NOW.

The guide needs updating, as Google Sync on the Blackberry hasn't been supported since June 2012 and officially stopped working in September 2012 -  http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&hlrm=en&answer=2495269 .

If you add the calendar link to an email address calendar (i.e. Gmail or Hotmail), then sync that email to your Blackberry device, the calendar should automatically sync too.
